March Lovin’: Cleanse Me Edition, Recipe Included!

IMG_2384

Hello, my dears!

A lighter post for you all.  One filled with pictures, hidden stories, and a way to remember enjoyment of the little things

I was looking through my intentions for the ending month.  As to kind of see how I have accomplished some, need to work on many, and how I can go further.  Well, a couple that stood out was my intention to feel daring and to humble myself.  Both, I believe are in the process of being conquered and definitely are to move further.

How?  Why? IMG_2405

Well, I stepped up my business game.  Little videos and plans here and there.  Just a start on how I want to get out there, and then actually doing it.  Then I did my detox.  And I found a little goes along way, especially with food.  Sweet Soul Nourishment can be found anywhere.

IMG_2336

Remember, when times were simple?  Or so I thought.  When we were just eating whatever and cooking up a storm?  Whatever felt right, for the day or week, I was on a mission to create.  Something delicious, lasting, and nourishing.  As all meals should be, but with a little twist.  The little twist being all the meat, cheese, and comfort, to make the week seem a bit more enjoyable.

IMG_2283

IMG_2245
All fun and games during the winter season, until of course the detox came into play.  Which is exactly what I needed.  A detox to rid habits, foods, and cravings that came about more often.  Not that I couldn’t enjoy those delicious pastas and meats, but I think a calling to Nature’s food was in full blown with Spring

IMG_2361

My favorite were the smoothies, and I am happy to say that I have I have kept it up beyond my detox!  Instead of my breakfast of bread, butter, and eggs, I transitioned into a vegan green smoothie lover.  I never thought that would happen, since to be quite honest, I’ve done detoxes before and the whole drink for breakfast thing never stuck.  Maybe it’s the fact I can make it myself? The beauty in the colors?  Whatever it is, I’m going to make it last for awhile I think.

IMG_2380

IMG_2356

Simple dinners also played a huge role as well.  Quinoa and roasted vegetables are something I would gladly do at least once of week with PLENTY of leftovers for lunch as well.  Pretty much how I started really learning to cook, I’m glad to revisit.  The basics of cutting veggies, roasting, and making a filling easy meal.

IMG_2411

Early mornings.  So close, but yet so far.  If you known me for a while, to say I’m not the biggest sleeper is an understatement.  While I envy those who can fall asleep by 9/10, to get those precious eight hours in, I also love the fact I am an early a bird regardless of the very minimum I get of sleeping beauty.  Yet, I have found myself wanting more.  More sleep and even earlier mornings.  Think it can be done?  I shall keep you updated.

IMG_2272

Can we talk about the warmer weather?  At first, I looked at it as a tease.  It was making me miss my palm trees way too much.  I don’t get impressed too easily either.  BUT, I will say it has motivated me to get more into the swing of things.  A little more activity and natural vibes.  I’m starting to remember my love for minimalism all over again.

IMG_2142

And now….

A little recipe, almost to easy to even call it that.  Whether on a detox or not, it’s perfect for a when you need a little more than a smoothie or juice.  Especially, when you have leftovers of quinoa that needs to be eaten.  My real motivation.

IMG_2385Quinoa Breakfast Bowl

  • 1 cup cooked quinoa
  • 1/2 cup almond milk
  • 1 tbs chia seeds
  • cinnamon
  • fruit (I incorporated frozen mixed berries and mango)
  • 1 spoon almond butta

Mix the quinoa, milk, chia seeds, and cinnamon.  Let sit for about 20 minutes to allow quinoa and chia seeds to absorb the liquid.  Top as you please!

PS.  I really need some new bowls.

Summer Endings into Fall Beginnings

IMG_0501

Confession.  I don’t know if I’m ready.  It’s bittersweet for the first time….

I can complain and be upset I never got to the beach all summer.  My tan is a mere Floridian glow.  Most of my produce all season came from my home state, New Jersey.  My usual summer of festivals, yoga, and foodie finds was last year’s memories.

IMG_0453

IMG_0440

IMG_0480

I can be grateful and say I wouldn’t have had summer end any other way.  I got to be and connect with my family like never before.  See few, but the best of friends a girl could have.  Lots of movies, hugs, food, and pancakes.

IMG_0490

IMG_0494

I can be excited and say I am ready for fall.  I am ready for the cool nights.  Dark lips.  Squash.  Adventures.  Cleansing. Shedding some heated feelings.  Gaining some warmth, particularly within that chakra, anahata ❤

You see, our body’s have always been in aligned with the seasons.  Yes, as the human race we have steered off a bit (or a lot) but we can try and get there again, easy.  Every spring, we lighten up through weight and food.  We come out of our shell and get a bit more active and social.

IMG_0419

Then, come Fall, we await the pumpkin spice doughnuts and apple pies.  The leaves change to warmer colors of red, orange, and gold, even as the weather gets cold.  Our activities go from beaches, to cozy walks and movie nights.  Light summer cocktails turn into glasses of cabernet.  It’s time

For myself I want to shed the summer heat.  Cleanse. Detox.  I became a somewhat intense woman this summer.  And I learned there is a difference between emotional and madness.  I want to take the somewhat heated personality in my head and focus it towards my heart.  Because this ending, and new beginning, has taught me more than ever that being tough and arrogant isn’t all that.  Smiles are encouraging, not weakening.  Hugs are therapeutic, and people are INSPIRING.

IMG_0532

Usually this time of year, I talk more about the cleansing through food and holistic practices.  By now, I think we get it. More whole foods, warming foods, greens, oil massages, yoga, but I wanna add a little soul nourishment.  What are you trying to shed?  What are you trying to obtain?  Clarity? Love? Divinity?

Some of you will be wearing sweaters and sitting by the fires sooner than me, I’m a little jealous.  Although, I guess I can keep my Floridian glow a little while longer 😉

Step 1: Set Your Intention

IMG_6318

So, did you think I would forget?  It’s the beginning of October and Fall is still fresh.  A new season can sometimes signify almost a new year for some.  For me, I see a new year of schedules, planning, and time to really start over.

10613078_10152838221953243_1748317079832763570_n

I always see Fall as a way to remember why I started.  Yes, it is not like spring where plants come alive, and creatures and being alike come out to play.  Fall, as I said before, is the best time to rid and create space.  The perfect time to really just dig deep and rid that bullshit.  Whether it’s toxic chemicals to toxic emotions, we want to start a transitioning season in the best possible way.

When we hear of cleansing or detoxing, it’s safe to say most of us think about 2 things first: food and weight.  I would like to help transition that, because not for nothing, those are two things that most of think about everyday.  I want to think of a clean slate, a new beginning, and not only a healthy beautiful body, but a healthy mind and beautiful soul.  To be quite honest, you can’t obtain such health and beauty with your body, if the inside is still needs a little more love and help.  This is why the first step to any cleanse is your intention.

IMG_6015

When first starting anything, whether a new routine, job, or practice, we usually start off with why.  Why are we starting yoga?  Why did we start a new job or career?  Why did we decide to eat healthier?  Why did we decide to leave a toxic relationship?  Our why’s may all be different, but there are things that we will all have in common.  We are ready for a change and we are ready for our transition.  Once you decide it, you are ready.  It takes a lot of cojones to even tell your mind such things.  We decide to leave the comfort of what has been and really dive into uncharted territory.  Who are we to decide we want to change such a big part of our lives?

IMG_6301I know for me.  This takes a lot.  To say I tend to be a bit scattered and doubtful, can sometimes be an understatement.  Recently deciding to leave a job I had secured for half of my working life, for another unsure part-time job, wasn’t easy.  And to be quite honest, still isn’t.  But, I decided regardless of the fact that it wasn’t the “ideal” job for a girl my age and circumstance, it was a change.  Once thing I desperately needed.  To get out of my comfort zone, to get out of my bubble, and try something new.  I guess you can say that intention was for a change of atmosphere.

So, now I talk to you about your intention for your detox or cleanse.  If you are interested, what are you trying to get out of it? When things get hard, what do you want to feel?  Maybe it can be you want more energy or shed a couple of fast pounds.  Would you consider a new lifestyle?  A new way to approach a different, healthier way of living?  Strength? This could really be your intention for the season.

10417571_778448442212578_2695027857214486968_n

For myself, I want to feel light again.  Not so much physically, but more mentally and emotionally.  When things get rough, make it light.  When something might seem hard and you struggle, take it lightly.  Sometimes my emotions and mentality get a hold of me.  I want to learn and be reminded to say it with a whisper, and to listen to what might be too soft to hear.  When a posture gets tough, take it lightly.  If and when I do my cleanse, I want to rid those toxins within that essentially may way me down, that have my energy moving to others places that don’t benefit me or my surroundings.  It always comes from within.

IMG_6013

Of course, this is something you may do every week, but I bring it up now as a commitment.  I believe now is the perfect time to dig deep.  Let the Fall colors warm you and it’s chill breeze awaken you!

Please feel free to comment or share what might call to you.  Your intention for the season or week!! What will be your Monday Mantra???

Gracefully Falling into Autumn

IMG_2729

Was that too much for a title?  I wanted to make it clever and cute, and semi related to the topic at hand.  Eh, I tried.

So, are you guys gearing up the Fall season?  Anyone already been ready?  I’m trying.  More mentally than physically.  The thought of cold weather makes me a bit uneasy, but thankfully there are the positive people who remind me about the better things, or to just get over it.  Sweaters? Boots? Pumpkin? Apples?  Plum lipstick?  Something has to make you excited, right?

IMG_2710

I’m a sucker for the little things.  Yes, warm weather all year round can seem like a lot to ask for, but it’s really just for the simpleness of shorts and a t-shirt, and fresh fruit that I would like.  So, for now, I will focus on the easy small ways.  How we can all gracefully enjoy getting into this season of transformation?

IMG_3353

IMG_5766

Food!!! Focus on farmers markets for as long as you can.  Nothing makes me happier than knowing that I can still shop for local and delicious fruits and veggies.  It’s nice to see the change in colors in the atmosphere just from the food.  With fall squash, pumpkin, apples, pears, brussel sprouts, and cranberries, there are so many ways to enjoy the season just with food.  In the summer I must admit I take a break from cooking.  My go to of rice and beans with vegetables or salad, soon transforms to roasted root vegetable and curry.  Simple cozy recipes such Pumpkin Spice Oatmeal and Lentils with Butternut Squash, will make you a little more grateful for the color temperatures.

IMG_5967

Clean out those closets and cabinets.  There is nothing better than the feeling of a fresh start!  Fall is all about transformation.  Leaves turn colors and disappear, leaving space for growth once spring arrives.  Same with your body and surroundings in the home.  Go through your kitchen cabinets.  Take out expired cans and bottles, clean it up, make room for what you can use.  Even your bedroom closet.  I bet there are outfits you haven’t worn in a year?  Give it away.  With a big garbage bag, you will be surprise how fast it will fill up.  Whether the reason being it doesn’t fit you right or you changed your style up (I’m guilty of going through style changes frequently).  Maybe you can make room for cozy sweaters for the season.

IMG_2706

IMG_3360

Clean up your diet.  I’m going to throw out the word.  Detox.  Yes.  It’s about that time again.  Do you dread it?  Love it?  Mine is a little both.  I love it because I know it’s going to help me start this season with the healthy boost we all need.  Let’s face it.  Fall and Winter? I hope I’m not the only one who will be indulging in hearty stews and curries, apple pie, pumpkin pie, or hot coffee and teas.  Why not prepare your body?  With a week of clean eating, juices, and exercise, you will only have a positive attitude of the new season ahead.  I’m looking forward for my body to feel light and full of energy to fight those colder dark early morning blues!

IMG_5998

IMG_2835

Have fun with it!  Do what makes you happy! Experiment!  As I transition into Fall, oatmeal becomes a pretty important part into my diet.  The warmth and moisture it contains is perfect balance of the cold and dry weather upon us.  With some different variations and experimentation, I can enjoy feeling a little more healthier without getting boring.  You can discover what you love and don’t like so much.  For example, I learned I do not like dried apricots in my oatmeal, but love alone or in my desserts.  Who knew!  Little discoveries in a big bowl of oatmeal…

IMG_6020

Hope this helps!  Any questions on food, detoxes, and self-care, let me know!  I would also love to hear any advice you guys have on food, health, and fashion for Fall season!! Updates soon on the new events and changes for the next couple of months for sure!

P.S. Fall is great way to transition our self-care products and routines as well.  Check it out! I change my exfoliating body brush, switch from coconut oil everything to sesame or almond oil, and make time for more moisturizing face masks and body/scalp oil massages at night.  TLC people.  TLC.

Gut Lovin’ Salad

Good morning!

Hope everyone is ready for an amazing weekend!  Even though my weekends are mostly work related, I am always down for the positive vibes the weekend can bring out.  We should try the same thing for Mondays?  Worth a shot, right? (I’m well aware it’s Thursday, I’m still in college mode apparently)

Anyway, the other day during my cleanse I did some experimentation. Partly with new ingredients and know what order to put up those ingredients.  I know, sounds a bit crazy, but trust me on this one, I eat way too much salads that I take into account every aspect of one.  Dressing is a big deal.  Make your own.  It’s healthier and probably way more tastier.

With many detoxifying ingredients and gut moving vegetables, this salad is a sure way to cleanse your system.

  • Dandelions – filled with alkaloids to scrub your intestines clean!  Bitter greens are known for amazing digestion
  • Sprouts – chlorophyll little yummies which help create good bugs in those intestinal tracts.
  • Kimchi (fermented cabbage) – Love! Filled with probiotics, it helps to fill your intestinal tract with good bacteria and HEAL digestion.  If you are a kombucha fan, it plays a similar role.
  • Quinoa – a complete plant based protein!
  • Apple cider and Lemon – explained here 🙂
  • Curry Powder – warming and healing spices, such as an turmeric for inflammation and ginger for digestion.

Whether on a detox or not, make this salad a couple of times a week.  Your taste buds and body will thank you!

IMG_3675

Salad

  • 1/2 bunch Dandelions and/or Kale
  • 1/2 cup watercess
  • 1/2 cup sprouts (use some sprouted beans as well for more protein)
  • 1/2 cup quinoa (cooked)
  • radishes, sliced
  • 1 avocado, sliced
  • 1/3 cup kimchi
  • parsley to garnish
  • 1 tsp sesame oil

*Most of these are eyeballed, so do as much that is good for you.

*Dressing

  • 1 tbs apple cider vinegar
  • 1 lemon halved
  • 1 tsp tamari (wheat-free soy sauce)
  • 1/2 tsp curry powder

Make the dressing first.  Mix the apple cider vinegar, half a lemon juiced, tamari, and curry powder together.  Save the other half of lemon.

*Sometimes I leave out the dressing.  You can massage the kale with sesame oil and apple cider vinegar.  Squeeze a lemon at the end with some Himalayan salt and peppa!

Tear up the dandelion and kale to bite size pieces.  Drizzle about 1 tsp of sesame oil on and massage throughout the greens.  They should significantly decrease in size and become softer.  This will help the bitterness. Then add your dressing and mix well.  Add watercress, sprouts (and beans), quinoa, radishes, kimchi, and avocado.  Squeeze half a lemon, and parsley  onto the salad for a little more moisture and freshness.

Enjoy!

Spring Detox Part 2

Good morning ya’ll!

Hope everyone has had an amazing week!!! Mine definitely had it’s ups and downs.  I took quite a hiatus, first due to work.  My schedule has changed drastically and it’s definitely going to take some time to get used to.  I’ve been keeping focused with work, eating right, and some yoga.  Can we also talk about how I lost 4 months of information on my phone?  Yea, it was somewhat traumatizing, especially for me who had so many pictures!!  You know what that means?  This might be a slightly less appeasing post to the eye.  No pictures from my detox 😦

So let’s talk about how the rest went, shall we?

What I ate/drank?

  • Lemon with water upon awaking
  • Green juice every morning.  Nothing like starting your day with greens, ginger, and lemon.
  • Raw ginger cereal with raw cashew milk.
  • Green tea once a day
  • Gut lovin’ salad.  There will be a post on that soon!  It’s so good and taste so fresh.
  • Kombucha
  • More juice!  Preferably the Carrot Juice from Suja, or the Blueprint Beet Juice.
  • Ginger or peppermint tea

What I did?

  • #yogaeverydamnday (sweat)
  • Only breakfast and lunch
  • 5am or 5:30am wake up calls
  • Bed between 10pm – 11pm

How I felt?

Amazing during and after!  I lasted 5 great days.  I was never hungry, which was one of my priorities.  I wanted to enjoy everything about this detox.

My body felt light with all the fresh food and juices.  My yoga practice also helped by sweating out the toxins and giving me more strength. *Staying grounded during a detox, can actually be very difficult.  You’re body and mind may want to take flight, resulting in not being able to concentrate in everyday life task.  A vata obstacle.

Can we get real for a little?  My intestines were definitely moving.  I was regular and going to the bathroom easier and more frequently.  Just in the morning, I noticed a lot more evacuation.  This let me feel more secure with my body and health.  Nothing is worse than feeling backed up and bloated while trying to lighten up!  I was also great not to depend on breakfast in order to go.  I was able to go at times after my lemon with water or green juice.

Now we can talk about energy.  I don’t remember ever feeling depleted like I usually do!  I was fine with no coffee in the morning.  My yoga practice definitely woke me up every morning.  Through out the day, I made sure to keep myself well hydrated and fed, to not promote any drop in blood sugar.  I went to bed feeling light and was able to wake up easy by 5:30 every morning!  Less food is sometimes more guys!  I really couldn’t believe how well it turned out!

I highly recommend this detox if you are a health conscious eater to begin with.  You must love food and vegetables enough to want to nourish your body with it for a good amount of time.  Because, I did eat “normally” I extended my detox for a medium length of time.  Of course a juice cleanses would be shorter and a whole food cleanse would be a duration of a couple of weeks.  I had 1 cheat meal from Whole Foods and it was amazing.  Just a mostly raw salad and a kombucha, but it was just the slight midweek treat I needed 😉

You want to love what you are doing for yourself, basically because you love and respect the body you possess. We are all just souls, protected by your body.  Honor it!  Love it!

If you have any questions or would like to share your detox experience, please share!!! I love to talk more and hear what others have to say.  It’s always a learning experience for everyone.

Till next time!
